The Spiritual Humanist Church of South Africa was founded in October 2012 for the initial purpose of creating a body that will be recognised at Home Affairs in order for Civil Union Marriage/ Partnership for Humanists and alike. With this body, marriage officers can apply to the Director General for permission to solemnise Civil Union Marriages. The Spiritual Humanist Church of South Africa has since been recognised with its President Wendy Vermeulen having being designated as a marriage officer under designation number C/U 160. 

 

Spiritual - relating to or affecting the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things.

 

Humanist - a philosophical and ethical stance that emphasizes the value and agency of human beings, individually and collectively, and generally prefers critical thinking and evidence (rationalism, empiricism) over unthinking acceptance of dogma or superstition.

 

Church – ecclesiastical meaning , place of gathering for ceremonies.

 

About me : 

I was born to a family that believed in finding your own path in life for guidance. Like most people I was taught Christianity in school. When I grew to my teens I looked to seek other religious followings and discover new ideas.  After exposing myself to many guidance groups , Buddhist teachings became the choice for me.

 

The Humanist approach has long been the core of my belief, and Buddhism known as a humanist teaching interlinks with these ideas that I live by. As a scientist myself , with an enquiring mind, I am forever in search of the truth . 

 

I believe that love has no boundaries , its not decided or chosen but an uncontrolable feeling. Having said that I perform cross cultural, cross religion and same sex ceremonies.
